Pic N Mix shines at Rising Stars show at Thainstone

British Blue cross heifer ‘Pic N Mix’ has claimed the overall champion at the second Rising Stars exhibition calf show at Thainstone Centre this week – as part of this year’s Christmas Classic.

The ‘Rising Stars’ competition - providing an invaluable opportunity for farmers in the North and North East of Scotland to exhibit the best of their young stock - had an increased entry of 25 calves for the event held by Aberdeen & Northern Marts in conjunction with the Aberdeen Fatstock Society.

In a packed Thainstone Exchange, judge Donald Morrison from Cairn Nulla, Burnside, Kinlochbervie picked his winners out of a series of competitive classes.  The overall champion from Jack Hendry, Heads of Auchinderran, Aultmore, Keith – also won the young farmers champion title.  The heifer born in March was bred by D A Kennedy, Whitegate, Canisby, Wick.

The open championship was won by ‘Jelly Babe’, a Limousin cross heifer from Fodderletter Farms, Mid Fodderletter, Tomintoul and bred by Messrs Alexander, Quintfall, Wick.

John Angus, Store and Breeding Cattle Manager said: “The second Rising Stars competition had a tremendous display of quality calves that are a credit to our exhibitors.  With the competition being open to young farmers’ it is great to see this category win the overall championship here at Thainstone today."
